• Works with the traveller's actual phone.
• Can produce useful updates outside ordinary Bluetooth range.
• Battery is predictable and checkable before travel.
• The device can survive normal handling and a damp baggage journey.
• The owner can explain or share the location without exposing account credentials.

One tracker per checked bag

Putting two trackers in one suitcase can add redundancy, but it normally gives less value than placing one prepared tracker in each checked item. Name each device clearly in the app before travel and confirm the last update while you still have the bag.

• Use a name such as 'Blue Samsonite — checked bag'.
• Confirm battery status before leaving home.
• Keep phone software and the relevant app updated.
• Do not place the tracker in an external pocket that can open easily.

A dot on a map needs interpretation

A recent airport location can tell the airline which station may hold the bag. It cannot tell you whether the bag is loaded, whether a particular employee has it or whether you may collect it. Include the timestamp and exact terminal or facility description when sharing the clue.

• Say when the location last updated.
• State whether it is moving or stationary.
• Use the airline's approved sharing process.
• Never publish a live location link on social media.

Trackers reduce uncertainty, not liability

A tracker can support recovery but does not increase the Montreal Convention liability ceiling or replace proof of contents. Buy one for better information and identification—not as a promise that the bag cannot be delayed or lost.
