Dual-claim guide

You may have two claims. Never pretend they are one rule.

UK261 or EU261 can address qualifying flight disruption. The Montreal Convention or other baggage law addresses proven baggage loss. Both can apply, but not as duplicate payment for the same cost.

01

Claim one: flight disruption

Identify the applicable UK or EU scheme, route coverage, operating carrier, final-destination delay, cancellation notice or involuntary denied boarding, and cause. Keep fixed compensation separate from reimbursement of reasonable care expenses.

02

Claim two: baggage disruption

Use the PIR, bag tag, delivery or loss status, inventory, photos and itemised receipts. The 1,519 SDR Montreal Convention baggage ceiling is a per-passenger maximum where it applies, not an automatic award and not a flight-compensation band.

03

Avoid double recovery

You cannot be paid twice for the same meal, hotel, clothing purchase or other loss. Allocate each cost to the rule that actually caused it and disclose insurer or airline payments when another payer asks.

Fixed flight compensation is not reimbursement of a particular receipt, but eligibility still requires the flight tests to be met.

04

Escalate the right dispute

Ask the airline for a final response for each rejected claim. In the UK, an approved ADR body may handle the airline; otherwise CAA PACT may be able to advise after the airline process. Court limitation periods differ, so do not delay based on a generic deadline.

Common questions

What passengers ask next.

Can I receive flight compensation and baggage reimbursement?

Potentially, if each claim independently qualifies. Keep the legal tests and evidence separate and do not recover the same expense twice.

Is the baggage ceiling added to UK261 compensation?

They are different frameworks. The baggage ceiling limits proven baggage liability where the Montreal Convention applies; it is not automatically added to a flight award.

Should I use one airline form?

Use the operating airline's current process. Many airlines require separate forms for flight compensation, care expenses and baggage claims.
