Send it correctly

The PIR starts the record. The letter makes the claim.

A PIR alone does not guarantee reimbursement. Send the written claim through the operating airline’s official channel and keep proof of submission.

01

Check the deadline

Damage complaints generally need writing within seven days of receiving the bag. Delay complaints generally need writing within 21 days after the bag is returned.

02

Attach copies

Include the PIR, bag tag, itinerary, itemised receipts and the evidence relevant to delay, loss or damage. Keep the originals.

03

Use the airline route

Copy the letter into the airline’s form or email and upload the evidence. Save the confirmation page, reference and date sent.

General information, not legal advice. The rules applying to a claim depend on the journey, carrier and jurisdiction.
