01
Flight delay: test coverage, time and cause
Assess the flight using the protected route, operating carrier, arrival delay at the final destination and disruption cause. Care expenses and fixed compensation are separate even within the flight claim.
02
Baggage delay: prove necessary loss
The PIR starts tracing. A later written baggage claim normally needs the PIR, bag tag, delivery time and itemised receipts for reasonable essentials. The Montreal Convention ceiling is not a daily allowance or guaranteed award.
03
Do not submit the same receipt twice
A meal bought during the airport wait belongs to the flight-care file. Basic clothing bought because the checked bag was missing belongs to the baggage-delay file. If an expense overlaps, explain it and seek it once rather than claiming twice.
04
Use the two-rule test
- UK261/EU261: route, operating carrier, flight timing and cause.
- Montreal baggage framework: custody, PIR, actual loss, evidence and written deadline.
- Travel insurance: policy wording, excess, exclusions and disclosure of airline payments.
- BagBack: guidance only; no access to airline records and no guaranteed result.
05
Share tracker evidence through the baggage file
If an AirTag or Google Find Hub tracker shows the bag elsewhere, send the temporary link only through a channel the airline accepts and quote the PIR. The map does not change the flight-rights test, replace WorldTracer or authorise collection from a restricted area.
