01
An open trace is not a promise or a final loss decision
The airline or handler may still be checking routing data, possible matches, unidentified baggage and station responses. Some work is not exposed on the passenger page.
The wording does not provide a reliable delivery date. It also does not remove the need for a separate written expense claim.
02
Check the report details before escalating
- Confirm every affected bag tag is attached to the report.
- Improve vague colour, type, size, brand and distinctive-mark details.
- Add contents only through the airline's approved process when requested.
- Record each status date without assuming an unchanged screen means an abandoned search.
03
Follow the airline's time-based process
- Use the report contact for a factual update if the airline's stated interval passes.
- Complete a detailed contents form when the airline opens that step.
- Continue a proportionate delay-expense record.
- Prepare a lost-bag inventory if the bag approaches 21 days.
04
Tracking and claiming remain separate
Keep the PIR, bag-tag receipt, boarding pass, status history and itemised essential-purchase receipts. A WorldTracer or airline status update does not submit a reimbursement claim.
BagBack is independent and cannot see, amend or accelerate any airline, handler or WorldTracer record.
